Known for his affable personality and pragmatic approach to resolving disputes, Mr. Burns opened his mediation practice in 2025. He also currently works as a Fractional General Counsel for a handful of companies. Mr. Burns earned his basic and advanced mediation certificates from the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
During his 25-year career litigating a wide range of civil matters, representing both individuals and businesses of all sizes, he was fortunate to represent both plaintiffs and defendants. He has tried dozens of cases to verdict and bench decision. This experience has been crucial in helping him develop a balanced approach at practicing law and resolving cases effectively.
After walking the Camino de Santiago (790km) in 2024, Mr. Burns returned from Spain with a commitment to bring some of the peace one finds on the Camino to people trying to resolve their conflicts. Mr. Burns’ ability to connect with individual plaintiffs, high level corporate officers, insurance adjusters, and their counsel allows him to get to the heart of any dispute and bring meaningful discussion for resolution.
Edward earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego Law School. He earned a B.S. from California State University at Northridge, where he captained the soccer team for two seasons.
Outside of the office Edward spends time with his wife Pamela and their two children, Patrick and Colleen. He is active in the Odd Fellows and enjoys overlanding, hiking, fishing, skiing, and surfing.

Why is mediation a great alternative to litigation, arbitration, or unmanaged conflict?
-
Confidential and Private
Mediation sessions are conducted in a secure, confidential environment—unlike court proceedings, which are public record. -
Faster Resolution
Disputes can often be resolved in days or weeks instead of months or years in the legal system. -
Cost-Effective
Mediation typically costs far less than going to court, helping all parties save time and money.
-
Preserves Relationships
Especially important in family, workplace, and community disputes—mediation promotes understanding and cooperation. -
Voluntary and Empowering
Both parties have control over the outcome. Agreements are mutually created, not imposed by a judge. -
Neutral and Impartial
As your mediator, Edward Burns remains unbiased, guiding all sides toward fair and balanced outcomes.
